Product Description

It's been a long year, and you’ve been looking forward to a nice, relaxing vacation at the Grand Hotel Abaddon. But what started out as a quiet retreat has become something else entirely. Strange things have been happening all around you. Could ghosts be behind these mysterious incidents, as the other guests and hotel staff seem to believe, or is there a more rational explanation? The Grand Hotel Abaddon is a cooperative adventure game, played over three chapters. During the game, the choices you make determine what happens next. Explore the hotel, question guests, investigate rooms, and wander hidden passageways. Each player takes on a different role, cooperating to uncover hidden secrets. Only by working together will you be able to solve the mystery of the Grand Hotel Abaddon. With multiple possible endings, your choices will decide how the story ends! + Similar to a PC adventure game, players have to explore spaces, combine items, find clues, talk to people and make the right choices to win the game. + A cooperative board game with simple rules played in three chapters for players 12 years and up. + Approximately 5 hours of play time

This is my first Adventure Games choose your own adventure game. I realize that on boardgamegeek the ratings for the earlier ones are higher rated than Adventure Games: The Volcanic Island, but that didn't matter to me as I enjoyed it for what it is.+ The app is awesome. I love the Kosmos Helper App for my Android device. The tutorial is basically walking you through the manual and with additional animations vs. one or two stills.> I would normally give this a negative because the provided adventure book has very tiny text to read. But since I can lean to the app for almost all text it is less than a negative. The only text I so far have to read in the book is the location cards A, B, C, etc. I haven't found if that text is available in the app or not, since the app is driven by numbers, not letters.+ My picture is the initial setup with all four characters (game mat/XXL mouse pad not included...I just use one to make picking up cards easier). The setup is easy to do.> The artwork on the front of the box is awesome and sets an expectation...only to find cartoony artwork on the inside. The cards and locations art is totally fine and feels like I'm playing an app, but there was an initial disconnect from that first expectation set.+ I like how there are certain events going on and yo have a time tracker depending on your choices+ There is a fairly easy Save game process, by taking a picture of your map and tokens and then putting these into a bag along with any items you've found.+ It did take me just about 60-minutes, after the tutorial, to complete Chapter 1.The time savings comes mostly from our house ruling that all items are in a community pile and accessible to everyone anywhere...even if people aren't together. They actually suggest in the rulebook that this is an option if you want to speed up the gameplay.+ After chapter 1 I already see several locations I never visited and wanted to go back and visit them by starting over again, but I should wait till I'm done with my first playthrough and then the chapter 1 content will be less fresh the second time around.+ Which characters attempt which actions do matter. There were two choices in chapter 1 that I found (there may be more) where I had to pick which character performs the action. If I didn't have all four characters at the location or I was only playing with two characters, then the results would have changed.+ I think this scales well enough for 1 to 4 players.Solo play consists of a player playing two(2) characters. Many times there is at least one or more places to visit per location card, so even with four characters/players, someone has something to do versus all following one leader to each location. You could also have each player read only their text and then meet up with the group and share their findings if you don't have the app read aloud or players don't read aloud. It is co-operative, so no incentive to not share information with everyone.OVERALL:T.I.M.E. Stories was a fun co-operative 'visual novel '/choose your own adventure type of game. But it is expensive. This is a much more affordable product and gives me the same feel as the other game.I'm excited to finish all chapters, run through it at least one more time, and make different choices with different characters.A great gift to give someone or give yourself.
